Where will I be living?
Each Fellow is given FREE housing on one of our low-income apartment complexes. You will share the apartment with another CEC fellow or Full-time AmeriCorps*Direct member. You are responsible for paying any utilities that are not covered through rent. Each apartment is partially furnished and is located on site where you will be working (except Plaza David Chavez in Albuquerque, NM. The CEC fellows live on one of our nearby apartment complex)
How will I spend my work day?
In the morning each fellow will be doing administrative duties to help support the effective operation of the after-school and summer program. During the school year, in the afternoon all CEC fellows will be overseeing the 3 hour after-school program.
What if I am relocating to a new city?
AmeriCorps*VISTA offers a relocation allowance for people moving more than 50 miles away from their home to help with some moving expenses.
Will I need a vehicle?
Having a vehicle during your year of service is very helpful, and makes it easier to get around the city. However, most sites don’t require you to have a vehicle. The sites that DO REQUIRE you to have a vehicle are: Somerton, AZ, El Mirage, AZ, Shafter CA, and Pharr, TX, because there is no public transportation available in these cities. |
